Kinesiology

Tackle chronic disease. Champion fitness. Study the science of human movement and prepare for a career that improves lives.

Engagement

In the Kinesiology program at Illinois, we firmly believe that we cannot keep our skills and knowledge to ourselves. It is important to us that we share our work with those around us and engage our communities.

Below you will find a few ways that we bring this belief to life.

iPALS

The Department of Health and Kinesiology at the University of Illinois is happy to offer the Illinois Physical Activity and Life Skills (iPALS) Wellness Program in collaboration with Champaign Unit 4 Schools. iPALS is a free summer learning and enrichment program for children attending elementary schools in Champaign Unit 4. The Program specifically targets youth who are enrolled in the free and reduced school lunch program.

Lifetime Fitness Program

The Lifetime Fitness Program provides exercise fitness programming for Champaign-Urbana residents ages 55 and over. Programs include group fitness, individual training, and aquatics. The program is directed by Kinesiology Professor Ken Wilund and staffed by Kinesiology graduate students. Undergraduate students also work in the program in order to develop fitness instructional skills.

Sports Fitness Progam

The program is a service to the Champaign and Urbana communities and provides opportunities for children to stay physically active in the summer months. The program is intended to not only provide active opportunities throughout the summer but to set children on a course for a healthy and active lifestyle. The program is staffed by Kinesiology graduate and undergraduate students.
