Thomas O’Rourke, Ph.D. MPH

Since 1970 Dr. O’Rourke has held an academic appointment at the University of Illinois, where he is a Professor Emeritus of Community Health and as visiting professor at several other universities.  Dr. O’Rourke received his B.S from the City College of New York, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois, and a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Michigan. He also completed postdoctoral study at the RAND Corporation Center for Health Policy Study in Santa Monica, CA.    

His interests are health policy focusing on contemporary health issues and policies affecting the U.S. population. Another is comparing the U.S. health system to other developed counties. He has been actively involved in numerous leadership and service activities at the national, state and community levels. He maintains an active academic schedule, continues to consult, publish and serves on the Editorial Board of several academic Journals.
