Assess community needs. Develop innovative solutions. Implement impactful programs and policies. Focus on prevention. Build stronger, healthier communities.

Integrative Learning Experience (ILE)

In the final semester of MPH training, students complete the ILE: a culminating project conducted under the supervision of a Faculty Advisor. The purpose of the ILE is to help each student integrate information and skills gained in coursework and the Applied Practice Experience to address a public health issue or problem. A wide variety of projects may be appropriate, including projects related to research, program evaluation, training a public health workforce, and community interventions to improve health.

Examples of recent MPH ILE projects include:

  • Creating an adolescent sexual and reproductive health brochure
  • Developing a storyboard initiative to improve cold-holding practices at food facilities
  • Creating an infographic displaying the results of health and weight benefits of a worksite wellness program
  • Implementing an intervention to improve self-efficacy in a fitness setting
  • Creating an action plan on condom availability program in Chicago high schools
