Timothy M. Hale, Ph.D.

Dr. Hale comes to UIUC with 7 years of experience in applied health technology research at Partners Healthcare Pivot Labs (formerly the Center for Connected Health), in Boston, Massachusetts. At Pivot Labs Dr. Hale led a product development team on projects spanning the health technology development lifecycle: early product ideation, human-centered design and prototyping, software development, and research studies to evaluate efficacy and usability. He received a Ph.D. in medical sociology in 2011 from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. His research focuses on digital inequalities, emerging digital health lifestyles, and the social and health impacts of new health technology. Dr. Hale has over 20 peer-reviewed publications in the field of health technology, as well as chapters in edited volumes and reports.  His research has been funded by National Institutes of Health as well as sponsored by industry and non-profit organizations.
